JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

As a Refrigeration Technician onboard a pipe layer vessel, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all refrigeration systems onboard, ensuring they operate efficiently and meet the necessary safety and environmental standards. This role is critical to ensuring the comfort and safety of all crew members and the preservation of perishable goods.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on all refrigeration units onboard, including air conditioning systems, refrigerated sea water systems, and other refrigeration-related equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with refrigeration systems, determining the most effective solutions.
- Keep detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed on all refrigeration equipment.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime laws and regulations related to environmental and refrigerant handling.
- Collaborate with other technical staff to ensure the overall operational efficiency of shipboard machinery and systems.
- Manage refrigerant supply, including proper storage, handling, and disposal to prevent environmental contamination.
- Provide training and support to other crew members on the proper operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems.
- Be available to respond to emergency breakdowns or malfunctions, including outside of regular working hours.

REQUIREMENTS

- Certification or diploma in refrigeration technology or a related field.
- Possibly in possession of the necessary requirements for boarding (seaman's book, ILO medical examination, STCW courses, and security course) or a valid medical examination for offshore work, and survival and rescue course or BOSIET or FOET.
- Proven experience as a refrigeration technician in a maritime environment.
- Strong understanding of marine refrigeration systems and their components.
- Familiarity with safety standards and maritime regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces and under challenging conditions.
